Say Yes to Forest Bathing

Are you ready to hit the reset button and indulge in some self-care that speaks to your soul?  In the daily hustle of life, we often forget how much we can benefit from going outside. In fact, there is something called forest bathing. Have you heard of it?  It’s a Japanese practice called "Shinrin-yoku," where immersing yourself in nature leads to profound health benefits. And we will be offering a forest bathing walk with Terry Solano as your guide in one of our workshops at the Women’s Wellness Weekend in Cape Charles, VA, April 5-7.

If you’re skeptical that forest bathing can be beneficial, there are numerous studies that have shown there are multiple benefits of forest bathing.

  • According to a study at Nippon Medical School in Tokyo, forest bathing significantly reduces cortisol levels. So, it will lower your stress levels and provide an overall feeling of calm and serenity. Yes, please!

  • The Journal of Environmental Psychology reports that spending time in nature enhances mood and cognitive function.  Who doesn’t need a mood booster and a clear mind?

  • The phytoncides released by trees, as found in a study by the Department of Hygiene and Public Health, Nippon Medical School, strengthen your immune system. Forest bathing is basically a natural immunity booster!

Who knew?  The good news is that you can go for a forest bathing walk at the Women’s Wellness Weekend in Cape Charles, VA April 5-7 if you register for Path 6.  The upland hardwood forest is a great place for bird watching and, you guessed it, forest bathing. If for some reason you cannot join us, you can get the same benefits from forest bathing by walking outside. For anyone who needed to hear that, You’re welcome!
