You are Worthy
There’s nothing quite like finding a book to cozy up with on a cold dreary day, especially when it is inspirational and spoken from the heart. And that’s what I did last weekend. Worthy by Jamie Kern Lima was released last week. This is bound to be a groundbreaking book that will help so many people. If you doubt yourself or you’ve been playing small for too long, this book will provide the framework to help you soar beyond what you ever thought was possible.
If you haven’t heard of her, Jamie Kern Lima went from a struggling Denny’s waitress to build IT Cosmetics and sold it for $1.2 billion to L’Oreal. Worthy is about recognizing your inherent value and loving yourself for who you are. After a brief introduction, she breaks down the nine lies we tell ourselves that keep us stuck. From “My Weight Impacts My Worth” and “If I Stand Out, I’ll Get Kicked Out” to “I Need to Please Them to Love Me,” she breaks down what so many of us are struggling with and offers a way of thinking to have the freedom and the confidence to pursue your dreams. Then she offers tools and exercises to help you apply what you have learned.
One of the most creative and liberating expressions that Jamie shares is “You’re Not Crazy, You’re Just First.” She wrote a poem that is over 5 pages and can be found at the end of the book. It is sure to be a rallying cry for so many people who have not felt like they belonged. This poem shows how inclusive and uplifting Jamie is. One of my favorite parts is “”When you’re feeling like you don’t fit in/ Or that you never quite belong,/ Your uniqueness is your superpower;/ Your truth is never wrong.”
Worthy is filled with inspiration and empowerment. It's a call to action to embrace your unique story and recognize your own worth. I believe that this is the beginning of a movement. When you watch Jamie Kern Lima speak in social media she is genuine and loving. She is the real deal. It is a compelling read if you are looking to find your place in the world.
Just remember: You are worthy, you are capable, and you matter. I hope Worthy inspires you to re-write your own story so you can be yourself and love yourself for who you are.
