Be Kind and Loving
During the Christmas season, it’s easy to get bogged down, busy, grumpy, and sad. But you can choose to be kind and loving and make an extra effort with the people around you. You can show your friends and neighbors that you care through what might seem like small gestures, but have a big impact. When you share something you make like cookies or candy, or you drop off a meal to someone who is homebound, you are making a difference. Just taking the time to smile and say hello is always appreciated.
Growing up, my father used to include a phrase in his grace that always resonated with me. He would say, “help us remember the needs of others.” As a teenager and as a young, single woman I was self-centered. I admit it. But when I heard that phrase, or when I went to church, I found a way to remember the needs of others. You might be so worried about what to buy, or even if you’re going to receive that big bonus. Chances are you have it much better than many in your community and possibly in your family. Take a moment to remember the needs of others and pay it forward to causes that mean a lot to you.
Be kind. Stop for a moment to help someone with their groceries or Amazon packages. According to a recent Census Bureau report, 27.6% of Americans are living alone. And it’s on the rise. Be kind and think of a way you can help someone. You may not know how much of a difference it makes, but it does. It’s that simple. A little bit of love and kindness goes a long way. And it’s free, so give your love and kindness generously. xo
