Seek Joy Amid Chaos

As we hustle around this week, shopping, cooking, traveling, and wrapping presents, on top our regular daily stressors, remember to find joy at least once a day. Cherish the reason for the season and the miracles around you.

Sometimes, joy can be found in the simplest moments. For me, the best part of a difficult day can be taking a shower and snuggling into bed. It’s a reminder that finding joy should be deliberate.  It is just as important as any other task.

Nature and pets are my go-to sources for daily joy. On a cold Wintry day, the sight of blooming camellias, the growth of an indoor amaryllis, or moments spent with our dog - walking, playing, or snuggling - make me very happy. Interestingly, studies have shown that just seeing our pets relax can help us relax too.

During busy periods, we often become too serious and task-oriented. When you are feeling challenged and/or overwhelmed by your kids or your parents/ in-laws, pause and plan something fun for later. It can be a game-changer for everyone involved.

You can find joy through giving to others. If you're in a position to do so, consider giving to those less fortunate - through food, clothing, or volunteering. It's a powerful way to spread happiness and remember how fortunate you are.

Most importantly, the joy in our lives is about the people, not the tasks or the things we accumulate. In the midst of our busy lives, finding and sharing moments of joy is what truly enriches our lives. Let's keep that spirit alive.
