Take This As A Sign

What’s one thing you could change that would change everything in your life?  I recently shared on social media that I quit drinking.  It had become a daily habit and it was time to align my values with my actions.  Three things were going well: I had been eating well, exercising, and I had a healthy mindset.  As it turned out, that fourth part was the last piece of the puzzle.

My life literally started to change when I made that decision.  I changed careers and changed the way I did things completely.  I had always worked for someone else and I was a secretary or administrative assistant for about 30 years.  When I decided to become a Coach, I also became an entrepreneur.  There were a lot of changes in a short period of time but I look forward to coaching for at least the next 10 or 20 years.

When I started a gratitude practice that helped me heal.  Between grief and a major change, I needed to process what I was going through.  My mother had declined with dementia over four years and died 6 months before I stopped drinking.  My therapist helped me realize I could turn grief into gratitude through journaling.  I wrote letters to my parents thanking them for all that they had given my brothers and me.  That made my heart full and helped heal some of my pain.  I also realized that I was surrounded by their love and their presence by their photos and the numerous paintings my father had painted. They are all over the house and when I tapped into it, I felt their love.

What can you change that could change your life?  And if you think of something and you say, “No, I can’t change that.” then that’s probably what you need to look at.  It took me years to quit and I’m not sure how many times I had thought about it.  So if you’re like me, you can make efforts to change and then go back to your old habits.  But when you are ready, be prepared for your life to take off.

Take this as a sign that it’s finally time to change - whatever that means for you.  You might start doing something or you might stop.  You might need to talk to a doctor or a professor or it’s finally time to take that trip or move to a new location.  Do it.  Life is short and this is not a dress rehearsal.  It’s Show Time!
