Words to Live By
I’ve been doing some personal training this Spring. We have been working out in an old-style weight room. Although it is a little dark in the basement of an old building, it is filled with lots of posters with words of encouragement and motivation. I noticed one particular poster on the wall today - and it really spoke to me. These words encouraged me and I hope they do the same for you too.
“Never never give up.” Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister during World War II.
There will be times when it might seem impossible to continue but as Yoda would say “Continue you must.” It reminds us to persevere and be resilient in the face of adversity. It reminds us that persistence is key to overcoming difficulties and achieving success.
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher.
This concept underscores the importance of self-awareness and mindfulness in personal development. Everything we think and do contributes to how our lives unfold. Our destiny is shaped by our character, which in turn is formed by our habits, actions, words, and ultimately, our thoughts.
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Wayne Gretzky, a legendary hockey player.
I find this encouraging to take chances and seize the opportunities, even if there's a risk of failure. We must remember that action is necessary for success and that fear of failure should not prevent us from trying.
Believe you can and you’re halfway there. Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States.
Roosevelt believes a positive mindset and self-confidence are essential components of perseverance and action. When we have faith in our potential and abilities, we have a much better chance to accomplish our goals.
