5 Things I Do Now

A few of years ago when I turned the page on 2022, I made a bunch of changes and without sounding too dramatic, I’m pretty sure they changed the trajectory of my life, and happiness.

  • One of the first things I did, and have continued to this day, is that I practice gratitude.  Being grateful for at least 3 things a day has lifted my mood, and changed my perspective about life.  I wrote about it in Begin a Gratitude Practice if you are ready for some personal transformation.

  • I also addressed my drinking habits.  It was a time in my life when I had been drinking almost every night, and too much too often, so that was when I began my Recovery.  I can now have one beer every once in a while and I am so connected to my health that I will continue this new lifestyle for the rest of my life.  I wrote about that in Self Care is Essential, which will also give you some information more information about how my life has changed.

  • Have you ever been on a big self discovery journey and you wonder how you didn’t know it any sooner?  I learned just 3 years ago that I am what is called an Empath.  If you know, you know, but if you do not know what an empath is, here is a description from a book that has helped explain so much to me - Thriving as an Empath by Judith Orloff:

“…a big challenge for all sensitive people is how to be passionate without absorbing the stress of others and the world. We don’t have the same filters as most people. We are emotional sponges who feel everything and instinctively take it in.”

Learning about my empathic heart has added a much needed piece of the puzzle to understanding how I work and I will share what I have learned through my work.

  • I really started to see changes in myself and I began to reinvent myself when I took an online personal development course with Mel Robbins called Launch and I have never looked back.  One of my biggest takeaways from the course was to keep a “journal.” I have been keeping a journal every day since that course and it’s where I track what’s important to me about myself, my day, my goals, small wins, and how I can keep moving forward.  That was a big game changer for me and it grounds me and more importantly, helps organize me.

  • Lastly, I have become a goal-setter and it almost feels a little weird when I’m not working on a goal.  I like to set goals that are do-able either in one session - like cleaning out a junk drawer, or in one month.  I make them SMART goals and if you want my take on goal-setting and overcoming obstacles, you can check out this blog.

I talk about a lot of these practices in my coaching.  Not only do I recommend that you incorporate these into your life, but I also have found them to be incredibly helpful in my life.  That being said, I also say take what I pass along and make it your own because it’s your life and you are in charge of how great you want to feel, aren’t you?
